at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities

College in the Schools is a NACEP-accredited concurrent enrollment program serving high school students, teachers, and schools by increasing access to college learning, supporting excellence in teaching, and strengthening high school-University connections.

Help students succeed in college.
College in the Schools gives students direct experience with the pace, academic standards, and individual responsibility inherent in college education.  In short, they become real U of M students taking real U of M courses.

Support teachers and strengthen academics.
College in the Schools serves students and teachers.  We know it’s important to give students rigorous academic options.  We also believe it essential to provide ongoing professional development for our teachers.

Partner with accredited quality.
College in the Schools...

  • Is accredited by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP).  This accreditation means that CIS has met or exceeded the NACEP national standards which guarantee students and teachers curricula, assessment, and evaluation methods in keeping with postsecondary rigor. 

  • Ensures that all CIS classes use the same texts, pedagogy, and methods of assessment as are used on the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus.

  • Regularly conducts research about the performance of its students and impact of the program on teachers and schools.  Be sure to visit the Research about CIS section of this Web site for detailed reports and data.

Working together, we can build a bridge between high school and college for our young students AND provide the sustainable model of discipline-specific professional development that Minnesota teachers deserve.


 
 
 
 At a Glance
 
 

College in the Schools delivers regular U of M credit courses to high-achieving high school students right in their own schools.  Selected high school teachers are appointed as affiliated U of M faculty and teach the U of M courses, supported by ongoing, discipline-specific professional development provided by U of M faculty and their sponsoring academic departments.
