Bookstores, University The University of Minnesota Bookstores offer convenient locations and regular hours throughout the term and during breaks, with extended hours at the beginning of each term. Independent and Distance Learning (IDL) students may also purchase course materials through the University Bookstores.

Public transit is the most inexpensive way of getting to the U of M. In addition to being more affordable than parking on campus, buses also save students, staff, and faculty from the hassle of getting to campus in rush hour traffic. Parking and Transportation Services works with local public transit providers to provide the best possible service to meet the transportation needs of the University community. The University also provides free shuttle service between campuses.

The College of Continuing Education (CCE) offers career and lifework planning services for alumni and other professional adults in the community who are asking "What's next for me, and how do I get there?" The staff, experienced in working with professionals in transition, can help adults define their goals, and refocus their skills and talents. Services include workshops, individual consultations, and career-related assessments.

Communications Kiosks Use one of the more than 110 communications kiosks located in buildings throughout the Twin Cities campus.

E-mail and Internet Services E-mail and Internet services are provided at no charge to students for any term in which they are actively registered in credit courses. Some restrictions on access apply. Users must be aware of all user rights and responsibilities.
To Initiate Your E-mail Account Stop by any campus computer facility or use any computer connected to the Internet. For assistance, call the Helpline at 612-301-4357 (1-HELP). You can dial into your account from a home computer with a modem at 612-627-4250. Note: If you dial in from outside the Minneapolis/St. Paul calling area, you will incur long distance charges.
Internet Services For a nominal fee, the walk-in Helpline locations offer Internet software kits needed for modem access, e-mail, Web browsing, and other Internet resources. For more information, call the Technology Helpline (1-HELP) at 612-301-4357 (1-4357 on campus).

Available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. This is a free service available to all students, staff, and faculty.
Financial Aid Most University students receive financial aid to help pay their educational expenses from one or more of these sources: grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans. If you're interested at all, apply for financial aid even if you think you won't be eligible. To be considered for all types of aid at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, complete each year the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The GLBT Programs Office is dedicated to improving the campus climate for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people at the University of Minnesota and to addressing the harmful effects of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identification.
Grades, View Your The University does not mail out grade reports. Your grades may be viewed on the One Stop Web site under “Quick Links.” Most instructors also accept a self-addressed, stamped postcard on which they will return your grade.

Students, staff, faculty, and others in the community are eligible to use Boynton Health Service. Students who pay the Student Services Fee and have any health insurance receive most services at Boynton at no additional cost (after the bill has been processed by your insurance company). University staff and faculty (and their dependents) may visit Boynton if they are enrolled in a health plan in which Boynton participates, or they may visit on a fee-for-service basis. See locations and hours.
Emergency Care During the hours that Boynton is closed, you should use the emergency facility specified by your health insurance plan. Emergency care is available on campus at the Fairview-University Medical Center emergency department. The cost for after-hours care in the emergency department is your responsibility.
The Student Services Fee and the Student Health Benefit Plan
Student Services Fee If you paid the Student Services Fee during spring semester 2008, you will automatically be covered through August 17, 2008, at no additional cost. If you were not enrolled spring semester, but are taking at least three credits during Summer Term, and therefore pay the summer Student Services Fee, and you have verifiable insurance, you will receive 100 percent coverage for most services once your insurance has been billed (see list of covered services) at Boynton through August 17.
Students admitted to a degree program who register for six or more credits each semester will automatically be charged the Student Services Fee. Students who pay the Student Services Fee and have any health insurance receive most healthcare services at Boynton Health Service at no additional cost to the student (after the bill has been processed by your insurance company). All charges for services received at Boynton are first billed directly to students’ health insurance plans. Most charges not covered by the insurance company will be covered by the Student Services Fee.
University-sponsored Student Health Benefit PlanThe cost is $385 for coverage May 19–August 17, 2008. If you were enrolled in the Student Health Benefit Plan during spring semester 2008, you will automatically be covered through August 17, 2008, at no additional cost. If you were not enrolled spring semester, but are taking at least three credits during Summer Term, and therefore pay the summer Student Services Fee, you must purchase the summer Student Health Benefit Plan unless you already have private health insurance coverage.
AHC Students: All Academic Health Center students will be automatically enrolled in and charged for the AHC Student Health Benefit Plan. Students already covered by U.S.-based employer health insurance may waive out of the University-sponsored plan by completing the waiver form.
Non-admitted Students: If you are not admitted to a U of M degree program you are not required to carry hospitalization insurance nor are you eligible to purchase it through the University.
International Students: International students must enroll in the Student Health Benefit Plan from the date of arrival in the United States through the final date of departure from the United States. Coverage is also required for their dependents. Contact the Student Health Benefits Office for more information at 612-624-0627.
Graduate Assistant Medical Plan 612-624-0627 University-subsidized health insurance is available to graduate and professional students who meet eligibility requirements. The University will pay 47.5 to 95 percent of the cost of this coverage; the exact percentage depends on the details of a student's eligibility. Students are billed for any portion of the premium they owe. Subsidized coverage for a spouse or domestic partner, and children, is also available.

Advising and assistance for high school students enrolled in the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program. High school students not enrolled in the PSEO program will be given assistance or referred to another advising office.
Holds If you have a hold on your record, you may not register or, in many cases, obtain transcripts until that hold is cleared with the office imposing the hold. A hold may be imposed for financial indebtedness to the University or for disciplinary or scholastic reasons. Notice of any hold, including the name of the department or office where it may be cleared, is available online at the One Stop Web site under “Quick Links.”

Undergraduate students registered for 6 or more credits and graduate students registered for 3 or more credits may use the University of Minnesota Job Center's employment services. The Job Center posts new on- and off-campus job vacancies on the Web twice daily. Students are encouraged to contact the employer directly.

The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Libraries rank among the largest in American university library collections, comprising a collection of nearly seven million cataloged volumes, as well as archives, audiovisuals, government documents, maps, microfilms, scores, electronic resources, and other material. The University's Web site provides online access to the collections and serves as a gateway to local, national, and global information sources. A current University ID (U Card) is needed to borrow materials.

With an estimated 80,000 visitors to campus each day and only 21,000 parking spaces, the primary goal of Parking and Transportation Services is to encourage transportation alternatives, such as busing, biking, and walking. This is accomplished through numerous programs and services designed to make transportation alternatives friendly and affordable. For those who must drive to campus, the University encourages early arrival and a planned parking strategy.

Students may use the recreational sports and fitness facilities and programs by paying the Student Services Fee or by purchasing a membership at one of the recreational sports offices; call for the latest fee amounts and eligibility information. Proof of registration is necessary for purchase.
Many activities are available including aquatics, intramurals, group and personal fitness programs, open recreation, sports clubs, and outdoor adventure. Some activities have additional fees. Lockers and towels may be rented at both the University Recreation Center and the St. Paul Gym.
Release of Student Information Regents policy, federal law, and state law regulate release of student information to third parties. University policy regulates sharing of information within the University. See the Regents Policy on Access to and Release of Student Education Records for more information.

Offers services for students who want to improve their study skills. Includes a course, Mastering Skills for College Success (LASk 1001), workshops, and individual assistance.

The Student Parent HELP Center provides programs and services for undergraduate students with children attending the University of Minnesota. Services and facilities include: child care grants; academic scholarships; resource and referral service for all academic, parenting and family related issues; advocacy and assistance from trained social work professionals; parent groups; computer and student center; and parent lounge.
Student Unions The student unions offer lounge and study spaces, food courts, convenience stores, meeting/conference spaces, game rooms, involvement opportunities, bookstores, movie theaters, and student employment opportunities. The unions also sponsor numerous events and activities for the campus community. You'll also find services such as postal stations, printing services, info desks, ATMs, and e-mail kiosks in the student unions.

Tuition and Fees Tuition at the University of Minnesota is assessed according to your student classification and program, your residency status, and whether you come from a state or province with which the University has a reciprocity agreement. In addition to tuition, you may be charged fees based on a variety of criteria.

Various offices on campus provide writing assistance through the Writing Support Network. Services include tutoring, consultation, handouts, and exercises to improve writing skills, plus interactive assistance online.
Veterans Certification Students admitted to a University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (UMTC), degree program may certify registration to the Office of Veterans Affairs (VA) by visiting One Stop Student Services, 200 Fraser Hall, or by calling 612-625-8076. If not admitted to a UMTC degree program, educational plans and all college transcripts must be reviewed with a College of Continuing Education adviser before registration can be certified.
