Split Rock Shorts
Want to try your hand at something new? Take a SPLIT ROCK SHORT!
The Split Rock Arts Program is pleased to offer SPLIT ROCK SHORTS, a series of intensive, three-day workshops that allow participants to sample and experiment with some of the media, genres, topics, and forms that are the foundation of Split Rock’s weeklong workshops.
Some SHORTS are for beginning writers and artists, while others are geared toward artists and writers who want to explore a new method or form.
The Split Rock Arts Program is the University of Minnesota's summer series of workshops in creative writing, visual art, and design. Held on the University's Twin Cities campus, the 23-year-old program is a popular destination for an eclectic audience of lifelong learners because of its promise of intensive study with outstanding artists and writers from around the world.
The following SPLIT ROCK SHORTS take place June 18-21, 2006, on the Twin Cities campus:
Architectural Skills for Thinkers and Dreamers Gerald Allan
Watercolor in Three Days: A Comprehensive Introduction James Boyd-Brent
The Brilliance of Brevity: Writing Compact Prose Jim Heynen
Color: Essence and Enigma Barbara Martinson
Getting Started: Beginning Fiction Sheila O’Connor
Self-Portrait and Beyond: A Painting Workshop Roger Shimomura
Essential Elements of Knit Design: The Swatch Rebekah Younger
Whatever the SHORT, participants are certain to revel in being away from the demands of daily life, and having the time and space to explore art, without interruption, in a supportive artist’s community.
Registration is now open. Tuition is $365/SHORT. Some SHORTS have an additional materials/studio fee. Graduate/undergraduate credit, scholarships, and on-campus housing are available.
