Driving to the Minneapolis East Bank Campus

I-35W From the South to the East River Road Garage
• Take I-35W north to exit 17C (U of M East Bank). Stay in the right lane and follow the sign that says U of M East Bank which will merge onto eastbound Washington Avenue. 

• Continue over the Washington Avenue Bridge, staying in the right lane. At the east end of the bridge is an immediate right-hand exit to East River Parkway (also called East River Road). 

• Take the East River Parkway/Road exit and follow the road to your right until you reach the stop sign at the bottom of the hill. Take a left onto East River Parkway/Road.

• Drive along East River Parkway/Road to the East River Road Garage. Enter the garage from the Public parking entrance, indicated with a big blue P.  

I-35W From the North to the East River Road Garage
• Take I-35W south to the University Avenue/Fourth Street exit.

• Turn left onto University Avenue, the second stoplight after the exit. 

• Drive east on University for approximately five blocks, staying in the right lane. 

• Take a right on 14th Avenue S.E. which cuts through the campus.

• Continue as 14th Avenue S.E. curves to the right and becomes East River Parkway (also called East River Road). Drive past the Weisman Art Museum (which will be on your left) to the East River Road Garage. Enter the garage from the Public parking entrance, indicated with a big blue P.  

I-94 From the East or West to the East River Road Garage
Note!  There is a project on the Minneapolis East Bank campus that includes construction of new buildings and the reconfiguration of city streets. This will affect the areas in and around University Avenue, Oak Street, Huron Boulevard, Beacon Street S.E., and Fourth Street, S.E. Throughout the summer, traffic along routes leading in and out of this area will be congested, so it's best to plan your trip in advance and allow extra travel time to follow posted detours.

• Take I-94 to the Huron Boulevard exit.

• From Huron Boulevard, turn left onto Fulton Street S.E., the first stoplight after the exit. 

• Drive for three blocks, past Oak Street, until Fulton ends at East River Parkway (also called East River Road).

• Turn right onto East River Parkway/Road and drive to the East River Road Garage. Enter the garage from the Public parking entrance, indicated with a big blue P.  

From the Airport to Yudof Hall
• Exit the airport via Highway 5 west to Minneapolis. Highway 5 will quickly merge with westbound I-494.  Continue west on I-494 to I-35W.  Exit onto north I-35W. 

• Take I-35W north to exit 17C (U of M East Bank). Stay in the right lane and follow the sign that says U of M East Bank which will merge onto eastbound Washington Avenue. 

• Continue over the Washington Avenue Bridge, staying in the right lane, and drive to Church Street S.E.  Church Street is immediately past Coffman Memorial Union, which will be on your right. 

• Take a right onto Church Street and drive for one-half block. 

• Take a right onto Delaware Street S.E. Note: Delaware is a small street, but it is the only place you can turn. Coffman Memorial Union will be on your right and Yudof Hall on your left.

Dropping Luggage at Yudof Hall
If you would like to drop your luggage at the front desk of Yudof Hall before parking in the East River Road Garage, you may park on Delaware Street S.E. Use your flashers when you park. After dropping your luggage, simply enter the East River Road Garage from Delaware Street; the entrance is to the right of Yudof Hall. Note: You may enter the garage on Delaware Street, but you must exit the garage on East River Parkway/Road.

Driving to the St. Paul Campus

I-35W  From the North or South
Take the Cleveland Avenue exit. Drive south on Cleveland, past Larpenteur Avenue, to the campus. Turn left on Buford Avenue. Take Buford approximately three blocks to Gortner Avenue. Turn right onto Gortner Avenue and drive one-half block to the Gortner Avenue Ramp, which will be on your right.

I-94 From the East or West
Take the Snelling Avenue exit. Drive north on Snelling to Como Avenue, which will be a right-lane exit.  After exiting, take a left onto Como Avenue and drive past the Minnesota state fairgrounds to Cleveland Avenue. Take a right onto Cleveland and drive north to the campus. Turn right onto Buford Avenue. Take Buford approximately three blocks to Gortner Avenue. Turn right onto Gortner Avenue and drive one-half block to the Gortner Avenue Ramp, which will be on your right.

Dropping Gear at McNeal Hall Studios
If you would like to drop your gear at your McNeal Hall studio before parking in the Gortner Avenue Ramp: Turn from Cleveland onto Buford Avenue, which bisects the middle of the campus. Drive on Buford for approximately two blocks to Upper Buford Circle. Turn left onto Upper Buford Circle; McNeal Hall will be immediately to your right. Park near the main door; Use your flashers when you park. The elevator is to the right as you enter McNeal's atrium lobby.

Driving Between the Minneapolis East Bank and St. Paul Campuses

From East River Road Garage to Gortner Avenue Ramp

• Take a left turn out of the garage onto East River Parkway (also called East River Road). 

Take East River Parkway/Road several blocks to Oak Street S.E. 

• Take a left onto Oak Street and drive for three blocks to Washington Avenue.

• Take a right onto Washington Avenue and drive for two blocks to University Avenue. 

• Take a right onto University and drive approximately 20 blocks, past the Highway 280/I-94 junction, to Raymond Avenue. 

• Take a left onto Raymond Avenue. Drive north on Raymond past Como Avenue. Note: Raymond Avenue automatically becomes Cleveland Avenue at Como.

• Drive north on Raymond/Cleveland Avenue to the campus.

Turn right onto Buford Avenue. Take Buford approximately three blocks to Gortner Avenue. Turn right onto Gortner Avenue and drive one-half block to the Gortner Avenue Ramp, which will be on your right.

From Gortner Avenue Ramp to East River Road Garage

• Turn left onto Buford Avenue. Take Buford approximately three blocks to Cleveland Avenue.

• Turn left onto Cleveland Avenue. Drive south on Cleveland Avenue out of the campus and past Como Avenue. Note: Cleveland Avenue automatically becomes Raymond Avenue at Como.

• Continue on Raymond/Cleveland to University Avenue.

• Turn right onto University Avenue and drive approximately 20 blocks to Washington Avenue. 

• Take a left onto Washington Avenue and drive for two blocks to Oak Street S.E. 

• Take a left onto Oak Street and drive for three blocks to East River Parkway (also called East River Road). 

• Take a right onto East River Parkway/Road and drive several blocks to the East River Road Garage. Enter the garage from the Public parking entrance, indicated with a big blue P.
