Summer Workshops in Writing, Visual Art, and Design + Online Mentoring for Writers
Split Rock'sSummer Workshops in creative writing, visual art, and design, take place each summer on the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus, which is located in the heart of one of the most culturally vibrant metropolitan areas in the country.
Split Rock also offers retreats at the University’s Cloquet Forestry Center in northern Minnesota. Both locations are popular destinations because of Split Rock’s promise of intensive study with outstanding artists and writers from throughout the world.
All workshops allow for significant one-to-one contact between participant and instructor. Away from the demands of daily life, participants revel in having the time and space to explore art without interruption in one of two unique environments, both of which foster hands-on learning and supportive artists’ communities.
Graduate/undergraduate credit, accommodations, and scholarships are available.
Split Rock's Online Mentoring offers writers individually tailored, one-on-one assistance with their fiction, poetry, or nonfiction. The program's outstanding mentors have been specially selected from the 150-plus writers who have taught Split Rock's workshops during the program's 25-year history.
Online Mentoring serves beginning, intermediate, and advanced writers who need constructive criticism on work in progress. The goal of the program is to enable writers to strengthen and sustain their writing.
Clients work from the convenience of their own homes in flexible time frames using Web technology.
