Our mission is to give you individually tailored, constructive assistance with your fiction, poetry, or nonfiction by outstanding mentors in accessible, practical ways, and through this, to enable you to strengthen and sustain your writing.

For two decades, the Split Rock Arts Program has been serving writers through weeklong summer workshops taught by outstanding writer-teachers. We have learned much about what writers at various levels and in various genres need and value, and what makes a seasoned professional writer an excellent teacher and mentor.

Understanding Your Needs as a Writer
All writers -- beginning, intermediate, or advanced -- need constructive criticism on work in progress, whether it's getting through a first draft or readying a manuscript for publication. Yet many don't have access to credible feedback.

You may have reached a point where you've benefited all you can from workshops or conferences. You need a compliment to them, or you may be uncomfortable with peer review in a group setting. You may need the individual consultation that a curriculum-based class can't give you. You may not have access to classes because you are geographically isolated or physically limited. Or you may simply prefer one-on-one mentoring from an experienced writer and teacher.
