Human Resource (PHR/SPHR) Certification Test Preparation

Officially endorsed by The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the University of Minnesota's comprehensive test preparation courses will prepare you for the internationally recognized Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) exams. These certifications will allow you to advance your career by being a leader in human resources with an internationally recognized credential.

Our courses prepare you for the following exams administered by The Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI):

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR): The PHR exam focuses on the technical/operational aspects of human resource management.
  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR): The SPHR exam focuses on strategic and policy issues relating to human resource management.


Participants earn certificates of completion from both the University of Minnesota and the Society of Human Resource Management, as well as 3.5 Continuing Educational Units (CEUs). The University of Minnesota strongly encourages students to successfully prepare for the exam using the guidelines provided. To obtain your certificates and CEUs, you must attend at least 70% of the class, complete the required out-of-class assignments, and complete the majority of the pre-tests, post-tests, and the final exam.
