OLLI members enjoy life and learning
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is a membership-based community of older adults in the Twin Cities metropolitan area who love learning and enjoy spending time with like-minded individuals.
OLLI members are excited about being at a stage in their lives when they are able to explore new and varied interests – to stretch their minds and pursue new challenges. OLLI is not about class credits, grades, tests or writing papers. OLLI is about exploring new topics and new ideas. OLLI is about indulging your own interests. OLLI is about making and enjoying new friends.
Members choose from more than 180 courses and activities a year. If you are thirsty for history, energized by literature, challenged by the sciences, OLLI is the place for you.
An affiliated, noncredit program of the University of Minnesota College of Continuing Education, OLLI is guided by a member-elected board of directors, working through volunteer committees
A good value
OLLI membership, at $195 for a full year, is a great value. Members may enroll in two courses (more on a space-available basis) during fall, winter and spring sessions. Activities beyond the classroom include special interest groups, hiking, biking, field trips, and national and international educational tours. Annual membership fees sustain a small staff and support on-going communications with members.
Course leaders
OLLI course leaders are volunteers who are passionate about their topics and energized by active class participation. Many are current or retired faculty from the University of Minnesota or area colleges and universities. Others are community professionals and/or OLLI members. All heartily endorse active learning and active participation.
Courses and activities
OLLI courses are:
• Scheduled during the day.
• Located throughout the Twin Cities metro area, usually with free parking and access to public transportation. Follow this link for maps to area locations.
• The only prerequisite is life experience, and it is the nature of OLLI courses to draw upon the experience of the participants. Course topics reflect the variety and rigor of the University of Minnesota community, and the extent of your intellectual challenge is completely up to you. Check out our course offerings here.
OLLI activities:
• Often include travel, outdoor exploration, cultural and ethnic experiences, small group discussion and social opportunities.
• Are as diverse as the interests of its members.
• Include opportunities for members to be active in OLLI through committees and other volunteer opportunities.
OLLI members
OLLI members are confident, curious, intelligent, open-minded, mentally and physically active, engaged, aware, fun-loving and life-loving. Join OLLI and exercise your mind and enjoy new friendships.
The organization is sustained by committed and active members who serve on committees, organize social events and participate in special interest groups. There are no age or educational requirements.
"An opportunity to open doors in our minds that would otherwise remain closed."
Beyond the Classroom
The exciting OLLI learning opportunities only begin with its courses. OLLI members also participate in a host of other opportunities:
• Travel—Canada, Germany, Mexico, Cuba, the United Kingdom, or other worldwide destinations.
• Interest Groups—Bike with us, explore ethnic restaurants, listen to jazz, discuss books, or join us for T'ai Chi Chuan.
• Special Events—Guest speakers on current issues, parties, recognition luncheons . . .
