National leaders seminar faciliated by Dennis Saleebey, University of Kansas School of Social Welfare Professor Emeritus. Monograph forthcoming. Introduction to Resilience/Health RealizationSt. Cloud, Minnesota The reoccuring training series is an introduction to Resilience/Health Realization for clients participating in the five-year PARTNERS in HOPE project funded by the US Office of Drug Control Policy and the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as part of the Drug Free Communities Support Program. Participation is by invitation for members of the St. Cloud area PARTNERS program. Limited special seats are available for selected guests. For details contact NRRC. Outcomes have routinely included improved sense of personal well being (emotional to physical including reduced stress), enhanced relationships with others, increased personal reflection and spiritual development, and greater satisfaction with environment or place. New outcomes show statistical significance in ten domains after four days of introductory training. Such changes improve the health of the helper and extend natural protective factors -- caring and support, encouraging high expectations, and meaningful opportunities for participation -- to the youth and adults they serve. Understanding Natural Resilience: Finding Hope Inside OutLocale and dates arranged by request Resilience--the human capacity to navigate life well--is the birthright of every child and every adult. Attend this one day workshop and explore ways of tapping the resilience of young people, their families and professionals who serve them. Kathy Marshall, Executive Director of the National Resilience Resource Center (NRRC) at the University of Minnesota College of Continuing Education, has spent a lifetime seeing people as "at promise" rather than as "at risk". She says, "It makes all the difference. This approach understands resilience as 'ordinary magic' waiting to be tapped." The results of NRRC work depend on an educational process--Resilience/Health Realization--by which people learn to access their own natural resilience and helping professionals experience success much more easily with those they serve. Marshall says the approach changes lives. It has been NRRC history that when people increase their understanding of how they function, quality of life improves. NRRC evaluations show changes routinely include enhanced personal well-being (physical to emotional), increased personal reflection or spiritual development, better relationships with others, and greater satisfaction with one's day-to-day environment. These outcomes prepare adults to provide essential protective factors tapping youth resilience--caring and support, encouraging high expectations, and meaningful opportunities for participation. Explore ways of tapping the innate health and inner resources of young people and their families. The session will build on participant's own lived experience of resilience, offer a conceptual framework for tapping resilience, and overview the essential elements of the Resilience/Health Realization model. By the end of the session participants will have a clear understanding of their own resilience, a practical set of tools to use with youth and adults, and a road map for deeper exploration of resilience and well-being. This workshop is designed for helping professionals from many disciplines. It is an in-depth introduction to resilience with special emphasis on application of a best practice known as Resilience/Health Realization. For registration details contact us.
