College of Continuing Education Scholarships
The College of Continuing Education's scholarship funds are awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement, and unless otherwise noted, awards are available to students taking either credit or noncredit courses.
Julius Nolte-Harold Miller Scholarship
The Nolte-Miller Scholarship was established in honor of Dean Emeritus Julius M. Nolte (1945-1963) and Dean Harold Miller (1972-1998) for their visionary leadership and outstanding service to the College. This general fund provides college-wide scholarship support.
Osher Reentry Scholarship Program
The Osher Reentry Scholarship Program was established by the Bernard Osher Foundation of San Francisco, California. This program supports individuals with a financial need who have a significant gap in their college education and a significant time left in the workforce, to complete their baccalaureate degree. The scholarship recognizes the commitment and efforts required to reenter college as an adult while balancing work, family, civic, and academic responsibilities.
The Ingrid Lenz Harrison Scholarship for Continuing Education
Alfred and Ingrid Lenz Harrison established this scholarship in 2001 to encourage women with a significant gap in their education to participate in lifelong learning through College of Continuing Education classes, courses, and programs. This scholarship reflects Ingrid Lenz Harrison's strong belief in the transformative power of education for women.
The Karin L. Larson Interdisciplinary Education Scholarship
Karin L. Larson obtained her undergraduate interdisciplinary degree in business and international relations in 1960 through University College at the University of Minnesota. She has established this scholarship to foster the growth and development of a new generation of first in family degree seekers and to support self-directed students who have financial need and are enrolled in the University’s interdisciplinary degree programs: the Program for Individualized Learning (PIL) and the Inter-College Program (ICP).
The J.W. Buchta Memorial Scholarship
In 1968, friends, family, and colleagues of Dean Emeritus J. William Buchta established this fund to honor Dean Buchta and his lifelong commitment to interdisciplinary education. Awards are made to students who have demonstrated academic achievement while working toward a degree in the Inter-College Program (ICP) or the Program for Individualized Learning (PIL).
The Fibiger Award
John Fibiger received his B.A. in mathematics in 1953 from University College. His long and illustrious career in business and his strong loyalty and gratitude towards his alma mater inspired Mr. Fibiger to establish this award. The Fibiger Award provides students in the University’s unique interdisciplinary degree programs; the Inter-College Program (ICP), and the Program for Individualized Learning (PIL) the opportunity to enhance their undergraduate education through research, projects, and professional internships.
The Dean's Fund for Scholarships
Created in 1975, this scholarship provides financial assistance for students taking course work towards a degree or certificate.
The Graduate Liberal Studies Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 to help students complete their Master of Liberal Studies, (MLS) degrees. Students who have shown academic excellence during the first half of their MLS program and have a financial need will be considered for the award. Volunteer service in the community may also be a factor for eligibility.
Women's Fund for Continuing Education Scholarship
The Women's Fund was established in 1995 to help single women with dependent children have an opportunity to continue their education.
Minority Access & Retention Scholarship
This fund was established in 1995 to provide assistance to students of color who are beginning or continuing their education at the College of Continuing Education.
The Ceil T. Victor Scholarship
The late Ceil T. Victor, a passionate lifelong learner and a active member of the Twin Cities arts community, established this scholarship to support goal-oriented students who are resuming their education and doing course work towards a degree or certificate, or by taking short courses, credit courses, or conferences at the University of Minnesota, College of Continuing Education. Prospective recipients must contribute to the cost of their education from their own resources and be ineligible for employer funded educational support.
The Staff Endowed Educational Development (SEED) Fund
Staff members of the College of Continuing Education established this fund in 2000 to assist students who have a desire to improve their lives through continuing education. Priority is given to adults making a life or career transition, students finishing their degrees, individuals who need a course to be admitted to one of the College's degree programs, displaced workers, and first-time personal enrichment program participants.
Mucke-Roff Scholarship
This scholarship was endowed in 1974 to honor Louise M. Roff and Edith E. Mucke for their leadership in pioneering programs in Continuing Education for Women in the College of Continuing Education. This scholarship is open to men and women students taking credit and noncredit courses, workshops, and seminars offered by the College of Continuing Education.
Gilford & Esther Remington Scholarship
Esther Remington established this fund in 1974 as a memorial to her husband Gilford, a noted University professor and Director of Extension. After Esther's death in 2000, G. Jean Berman, the Remington's daughter, contributed to the scholarship in memory of both her parents. Preference is given to students studying art, history, education, and media at the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses.
WCA Kate Dunwoody Scholarship
Established in 1991 by the Women's Christian Association, this scholarship assists women with dependent children in taking classes at the College of Continuing Education.
Split Rock Arts Program Participation Fund
This fund offers scholarships that enable a wide range of artists and writers to attend the Split Rock Arts Program. Scholarships are available for credit and noncredit workshops to assist with tuition and on-campus housing.
Andrea Gilats Scholarship
This scholarship honors the Split Rock Arts Program's co-founder and longtime program director, Andrea Gilats. Andrea's passionate, lifelong commitment to making quality arts education available to dedicated artists and writers is reflected in the core criteria for this scholarship
The Charlene Burningham Scholarship Fund
The Burningham Scholarship was established in 1989 to honor Minnesota fiber/bead artist and retired University faculty member Charlene Burningham for her contributions to education and the arts. In 1992, Charlene endowed the fund to help aspiring design artists attend the Split Rock Arts Program.
The Elizabeth Talford Scott Scholarship for African American Artists
This scholarship is funded by internationally renowned bead artist Joyce J. Scott, and named in honor of her mother Elizabeth Talford Scott, an eminent American quilt artist. The scholarship provides full tuition and on-campus housing at the Split Rock Arts Program for an African American artist or writer from anywhere in the United States.
