Placement Test Information: Spring Semester 2008

Minnesota Battery Test Information

  • Registration for the Minnesota Battery will begin approximately four weeks prior to the test date.
  • Registration is in Wesbrook Hall 101. General sign-up hours are M-F 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Students should register by noon on the day before the test date. Plan to register early as test dates often fill up quickly.
  • The test takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete. Sample questions are available upon request.
  • Bring a picture I.D. (driver's license, passport, or University of Minnesota I.D. card) and a test fee of $30. The test fee must be paid when registering. Payment may be made by check or money order. Checks should be payable to the University of Minnesota. The test fee is non-refundable after the day of the test.
  • To get your results, please visit Wesbrook 101 two days after the test (see the test results dates listed below).

Test Placement Information

  • Students will be placed in ESL classes on the basis of recent TOEFL scores
  • Advanced ESL classes are for students with TOEFL scores between 153-187 (CBT), 477-517 (PBT), or 53-67 (iBT).
  • Academic ESL classes are for students with TOEFL scores above 187 (CBT), 517 (PBT), or 67 (iBT).
  • ESL 3551 is for non-native speakers at the advanced or academic level.
  • Students who do not have a TOEFL score can take a placement test, the Minnesota Battery (MNBatt)
