Welcome to the Program for Individualized Learning (PIL)

Welcome to the Program for Individualized Learning!  You have taken an exciting and challenging step in realizing your goal to earn a baccalaureate degree from the University of Minnesota.  As an adult learner, you are most likely combining your college studies with an already full life of professional, family, and community involvement.  In choosing PIL, you’ve shown that you are motivated to take an active, responsible role in determining the content and direction of your degree.

I hope you will be energized by your experience in PIL.  During your first seminar experience, the degree planning course, you will meet other students, learn how to conceptualize an area of study, and come to understand the nature of a liberal arts undergraduate education within a public, land-grant university.  During your first and subsequent semesters, you will often reflect upon your learning experiences and your worldview in order to critically examine the knowledge, skills, and attitudes you are acquiring.  Your experience in PIL will be both challenging and meaningful.  The PIL staff is ready to assist you in your endeavor.

Prepare yourself for a true learning adventure!
