Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs (AGLSP)
AGLSP is an international organization of over 120 institutional members that share a common interest in graduate-level, interdisciplinary liberal education primarily serving adult, part-time students. Founded in 1975, AGLSP represents a broad selection of American higher education -- from small liberal arts colleges to large, research-oriented universities in the public and private sectors. The U of M's Master of Liberal Studies program has been a full member of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs (AGLSP) since 1998.
The Mission of AGLSP
The purposes of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs include:
- providing a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among graduate programs of related curricula, structures, and goals
- disseminating the concepts and goals of GLS programs
- fostering high academic standards in GLS programs
- sponsoring programs for the development of faculty who teach in GLS programs
- promoting public awareness of the value and goals of GLS programs
- cooperating in such areas as the granting of transfer credits among member programs
- soliciting private and public funding in support of the programs and their students
AGLSP holds a national conference at selected colleges and universities every year; the Fall 2005 conference was co-hosted by the U of M and Hamline University. Over 100 faculty, staff, graduates, and current students attend representing Liberal Studies programs from across the country. For a schedule of this year's event, please visit the conference Web site.
