Admission
To be admitted to the MLS program:
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
The Graduate School's preferred minimum performance level for your undergraduate GPA is 3.0. If your GPA is below 3.0, we suggest you consult with an MLS adviser. Call 612-626-8724 or e-mail ccemls@umn.edu.
Required admission materials include official transcript(s), a two- to four-page written statement of purpose, writing samples (approximately 20 pages), and two or three letters of recommendation.
The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is not required.
Admission is competitive. The faculty committee reviews all applicant files, looking at your total dossier and for a good "fit" for academic success.
Download an application packet or contact the MLS program at 612-626-8724 or ccemls@umn.edu to have materials sent to you. We strongly encourage all applicants to contact the MLS office with questions and for help with the application process.
International students who receive a Form I-20 (F-1) or DS-2019 (J-1) based on admission to this program will be required to maintain full-time enrollment (six or more credits per semester) and will be subject to the rules and regulations that pertain to the F-1 or J-1 student visa status.
Please see the University of Minnesota Graduate School's Statement on Diversity.
Application Deadlines:
September 1, 2008 for Spring 2009 admission
