Identifying departments and colleges
It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with University of Minnesota colleges, departments, and course descriptions by consulting the University of Minnesota Undergraduate Catalogue or www.onestop.umn.edu . During the initial advising session, your ICP adviser can help you select areas that address your specific goals.
Developing a Proposal
The Inter-College Program degree requires a written proposal. This statement provides a coherent rationale for the degree structure. The ICP proposal consists of a goal statement, an educational history and a list of course work. The student is instructed to reflect on his or her goals in life, as well as past educational experiences. Because of the unique, individualized nature of the program, a statement is also necessary to justify formal course requests.
Academic and Career Goal Statement
Your educational, personal, or professional goals and interests help to define your academic program including your initial course work selection, and assist faculty advisers in appoving final choices for your overall program. Both short-term and long-term goals after graduation are considered.
