Program Accreditation

The Bachelor of Applied Science degree with a major in Respiratory Care is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in conjunction with the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). Mayo Clinic College of Medicine/Mayo Foundation is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Professional Credentials

There are two credential levels for respiratory therapists based on successful completion of the program and completion of national board exams:

  1. Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Entry-Level Examination can be taken after successful completion of Year III (junior) level course work. The CRT credential allows licensure in Minnesota.
  2. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) examination can be taken after successful completion of Year IV (senior) level course work.

Practitioner Licensure

Graduates who begin working as respiratory therapists complete applications for state licensure/registration where applicable. Those in Minnesota apply to the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, for Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) registration.
