Admission - Information Technology Infrastructure

Admission Requirements

The Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) is an advanced-standing degree: students are not admitted as freshmen. When you apply for admission, your application is individually reviewed in a holistic manner. The preferred Information Technology Infrastructure major admission criteria are

• at least 45 semester credits transferable to the major;
• completion of the ITI prerequisite courses: Physics I & Lab, Calculus, Java Programming, Structure of Computer Programming I & II, Discrete Structures, Machine Architecture and Organization, with a grade of C- or better;
• a 2.5 or better cumulative grade point average.

Please review the Information Technology Infrastructure Prerequisites to learn more about the admission requirements and their prerequisites, as well as the general education courses that are required for the major.

International Students should consult with an adviser to discuss their eligibility for admission to the Information Technology Infrastructure major.

Admission Process

STEP 1: EVALUATE YOUR PREPARATION

• If you have not yet earned any college credits and need to begin your college career, go directly to STEP 2.

• If you have already completed some college coursework, to learn how it may transfer to the Information Technology Infrastructure major

Submit a Planning Chart Request to the College of Continuing Education. Any non-U of M transcripts should be attached (unofficial transcripts are acceptable). You may also attach a resume (optional). An unofficial Pre-Admission Planning Chart will be returned to you with information on what course requirements you have met and those not yet completed.

Refer to the Transfer Guide in determining whether you have met the prerequisites (identified by an asterisk * in the left column). Course names in the Transfer Guide reflect general subject areas; exact titles may vary from school to school.

For coursework completed at another institution, refer to u.select, an online course audit tool, to see how this coursework will transfer to the University.

    If the evaluation shows that you need to earn     additional credits, continue to STEP 2.

    If the evaluation shows that you have met the     admission requirements, go directly to STEP 3.

STEP 2: COMPLETE LOWER DIVISION PREREQUISITES

• You can complete admission prerequisites at the U of M.

       If you are not yet admitted,
         - you may apply for admission to one of its                       freshman-admitting colleges, OR
         - you can register for classes and complete the            prerequisites before applying for admission to the            University. This is also a good way to see if            Information Technology Infrastructure is a good fit            for you.

       If you are a currently admitted U of M student, you        may continue to take the preparatory courses in your        own college.

• You can begin or complete your prerequisites at another institution. Transfer students are given the same consideration for admission as students who are attending the U of M. Use the Transfer Guide to assist you in choosing courses that will transfer.

Your BAS adviser can assist you in planning your pre-admission course of study. Call 612-624-4000 (toll-free 1-888-330-8636) or e-mail cceinfo@umn.edu

STEP 3: APPLY FOR ADMISSION

• If you are a U of M student admitted to another college on the Twin Cities campus or at a U of M coordinate campus, apply for official college change by completing an Application for Change of College form.

• If you have completed your college work outside the U of M or as a non-admitted student at the U of M, apply to the program as a Transfer Student through the University of Minnesota Office of Admissions.
