Admission
Requirements | Application Process
Although you may choose to complete the lower-division course work for this degree program at the U of M, freshman-status students are not admitted into the BAS program. If you have freshman status and want to take BAS courses, you must be admitted to one of the nine U of M-Twin Cities freshmen-admitting colleges, or you must enroll in BAS courses as a non-admitted student. While you can take courses as a non-admitted student, you may have limited course options, you can only enroll in courses after admitted students have enrolled, and you are not eligible for most federal and state student financial aid. If you would like to have your previous course work evaluated for transfer to the BAS program, please request a planning chart. Attach your academic transcript to the request (an unofficial one is acceptable) and if you wish, your resume or work history.
Partnership Community Colleges
If you are just beginning your college studies, we recommend that before you apply for official admission to the BAS program, you consider completing the first two years of lower-division requirements at an area community college that has partnered with the U of M. Students often find the lower tuition costs and various locations convenient to their personal circumstances.
By enrolling in programs designed to meet the BAS degree course prerequisites, you will be able to enter the program with full admitted-student status. You may use the Transfer Guide to insure that the course credits will transfer to the U of M and count towards BAS degree requirements. If you complete your lower-division course work at a college other than the U of M, you are given the same consideration for BAS degree admission as students who complete their lower-division course work at the U of M.
To begin the course work at a community college, contact the Office of Admissions of the community college most convenient to you. State that you are interested in being admitted and enrolling in academic course work. Each college process may be slightly different, so follow the appropriate procedures.
