Students admitted to an undergraduate degree or credit certificate program who have not registered for more than one consecutive term (excluding summer) need to apply for readmission using the Application for Readmission form. For more information, check with the college office you were assigned at the time of your last registration.
Students admitted to a graduate degree program who have not registered for a course or for GRAD 999 every term (excluding summer) need to apply for readmission to the Graduate School using the Change of Status/Readmission Form. For more information check with the Graduate School.
Holds must be cleared before registering. Check for notice of any hold, including the name of the department or office where it may be cleared.
A registration queue is the method of assigning registration times and is used to ensure fair access to courses. Non-degree students register during the last stage of the registration queue.
The Financial Aid resources Web page contains the Financial Resources Wizard, College of Continuing Education grant and scholarship information and applications, along with information about other resources to help you pay for your education.
Degree seeking students registering for six or more credits must use the Student Hospitalization Insurance form to verify insurance coverage. This ensures you will not automatically be charged for University -sponsored hospitalization insurance.
Tax-deductible educational expenses are available for a variety of education-related tax benefits.

First day of class attendance is required in order to retain your place in the class.
Mandatory University E-mail Account policy has been established to communicate with students via e-mail and not through the U.S. Postal Service. When you register you are assigned a free University e-mail account. Your student ID # (seven digits) is assigned to you when you register for the first time and will be sent to you in a confirmation (study list) of your registration. To initiate your e-mail account follow the on-screen instructions. If you need assistance, please call 612-301-4357.
If you prefer to use an address other than your assigned University e-mail, you may forward your U of M e-mail messages to that address. PLEASE NOTE: You are responsible for all e-mail messages and attachments sent to you by U entities.
To forward your UM e-mail to another e-mail address:
- Go to Internet Account Management.
- Login using your U of M Internet ID (X.500 username) and password.
- Select 'Set E-mail Forwarding and Autoreply'.
- Click 'Other'.
- Type your preferred e-mail address in the text box.
- Click 'Submit'.
