Accreditation
Online and Distance Learning courses are approved by academic departments. And like all University of Minnesota credits, they are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Credits are semester credits.
Undergraduate courses
ODL courses are undergraduate courses with only a few exceptions. If graduate credit is offered for a course, that fact is stated in the course description.
Degrees
Advanced college students may be able to earn an individualized degree all or partially online through a Bachelor Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies. Visit the Multidisciplinary Studies Program Web site for details.
Using Online and Distance Learning credits toward a U of M on-campus degree
- The University counts course credits earned through ODL as resident credits.
- Some programs have limits on how many ODL credits students can count towards a major. Admitted students should consult their program adviser.
- Students who are not admitted to a program but who are planning to earn a degree in the future should consult the Office of Admissions for further information. (612-625-2008, 1-800-752-1000, or TTY 612-625-9051).
Transferring Online and Distance Learning credits to another college or university
Officials at other colleges or universities determine which courses will be accepted to fulfill degree requirements at their institutions. Obtain approval from your institution before registering.
