Description
A foundational course for health professionals in the field of infection control in all health care settings. These courses integrate microbiology, epidemiology and patient care practices as applied to a population-focused practice. It provides major emphasis on risk identification and prevention strategies.
Objectives

- Describe a systematic approach to developing an infection control program for a healthcare facility or healthcare system.
- Use epidemiological methods to describe and quantify relationships between risk factors and disease.
- Formulate an approach to an outbreak situation.
- Assess healthcare workers’ risk of occupational exposure to infectious agents.
- Integrate a population-focused approach into the design of surveillance and prevention programs.
- Summarize infection prevention strategies to reduce risks associated with therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
- Discuss infection prevention and control strategies applied to clinical patient care settings.

Procedure for Registering and Accessing Learning Modules
Learning modules will be accessed through the University of Minnesota WebCT Vista course site. Access to the modules and assessments has a few simple steps, so please read through the instructions thoroughly before registering and accessing the learning modules.
Step 1: Register for individual modules, a bundle of four modules, or all fourteen modules on the Registration Page.
Step 2: You will receive two email communications, the first acknowledging your registration and the second alerting you that your course is ready. You will be assigned unique a secure User ID called an X.500 number. Upon receipt of these emails, login to the courses on the Login to Learning Modules Page.
Step 3: Follow the instructions within each module for which you are registered. A program learner assessment in the form of a quiz will be required for participants to complete at end of each module. To receive CE credit for a module, you will have to pass an assessment quiz with a score of 70% or greater. Quizzes are scored automatically and you will be able to see their scores within a few moments after completing the assessment quiz. Upon successful completion of the assessment quiz, you will have the opportunity to print your certificate for continuing education units.
