College in the Schools - Teacher Qualifications

Psychology

(Psychology 1001:  Introduction to Psychology)

Qualified high school teachers must have post-secondary coursework in psychology and demonstrated excellence in teaching advanced high school students.  A graduate degree is desirable.

Because this is a hybrid course with significant online activities, teachers also need to be comfortable working with technology and have access in the classroom to the Internet.  If necessary, teachers should confirm with their site technical support that they are able to access streaming video over the Internet on a reliable basis.

New CIS teachers must participate in a mentoring program before teaching their first course.  This will involve meeting three to four times during the summer with the faculty coordinator.  The new faculty will work through all lectures of the course, cover the textbook and review supplementary materials on the various topics highlighted in course lectures.

At least a few years’ experience at the site where they will teach the CIS course is helpful for identifying students and for managing administrative tasks.
