Ophthalmology Technician - Undergraduate Level
The Ophthalmology Technician Certificate Program is designed to provide you with the technical and mechanical skills needed to treat and diagnose eye diseases. Completing the program, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs , qualifies y ou to assist ophthalmologists (physicians) and to take the national certification examination available through the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology.
Specifically, you will develop skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Clinical Optics
- Ocular Motility
- Visual Fields
- Contact Lenses
- Intermediate Tonometry
- Ocular Pharmacology
- Ocular Photography
This unique and rigorous certificate program curriculum was developed through the School of Ophthalmic Medical Technology at Regions Hospital in cooperation with the University of Minnesota's Department of Ophthalmology and the College of Continuing Education and is nationally recognized as one of the best in the nation. It provides a low-cost option for a credible education program in ophthalmology, and it carries the University of Minnesota's reputation as a world-class institution. This is the only accredited program of its kind in the region, and employers throughout the United States recruit directly from its pool of graduates.
