SW 5709 Applied Psychopharmacology for Human Service Professionals (2 cr.)
  NOTE: It is recommended that you take PubH 6003 and FSoS 5426 before SW 5709
SW 5711 Co-Occurring Addictive & Mental Health Disorders (2 cr.)
  NOTE: It is recommended SW 5711 be taken after PubH 6003 and SW 5709
PubH 6724 The Health Care System and Public Health (3 cr.)
PubH 6003 Fundamentals of Alcohol and Drug Abuse (1 cr.)
  NOTE: You must inform the teaching assistant for the course that you are an Addiction Studies certificate student in order to get the assignments that are related to your certificate program.

Completion Requirements
Completing this certificate program requires completion of the indicated courses with core courses requiring a grade of B- and a cumulative GPA for all certificate course work of a 2.8 or better. Elective credits may be taken A/F or S/N if available. For information on completing a graduate-level certificate see the Certificate Completion Form.

FSoS 5426 Alcohol and Drugs: Families and Culture (3 cr.)
EPsy 5401 Counseling Procedures (3 cr)
FSoS 5429 Advanced Counseling Skills (3 cr.)
  NOTE: It is recommended you take EPsy 5401 before FSoS 5429.

Elective Courses: 10 credits from courses related to Addictions such as:

Minnesota Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor Requirements

In order to fulfill the educational requirements to be eligible for licensure, students also need to complete the following courses:

UC 4001 Professional Practice of Addictions Counseling (4 cr.)
UC 4002 Internship I (2 - 8 cr.) NOTE: Fall and Spring Semester you may register for 2-6 credits and May Session/Summer Session you may register for 2-5 credits.

The internship experience will provide you with the opportunity to transfer the knowledge and skills gained in the academic portion of the service provider certificate to clinical practice. You may enroll for the internship sequence after the academic portion is completed. The course "Professional Practice of Addictions Counseling" is a required prerequisite for the internship sequence and should be taken during the semester prior to registering for internship. Internships are planned as part of the "Professional Practice" course and must be approved by addiction studies faculty. Please review the Internship Manual.

You must have the content in the courses listed below that meet the 12 core functions as specified by the Minnesota Statute's licensing requirements. Some of these courses are listed as core courses above and others can be taken as electives if you haven't taken them previously.
