Lifework Lifeline Exercise

Lifeline Exercise | Lifework Indicator | Resources

As you begin the lifework self-exploration process, it is important to reflect on the things that have influenced your path. Charting your history, or your "Lifework Lifeline," will help you do this.

Starting with your earliest recollection of work, career, and education, identify the following influences. Note events or influences you think had a significant influence on your career and lifework history with a "*".

  1. Any and all career ideas and dreams you've ever had.
  2. Messages you received (verbally or nonverbally) from family, friends, teachers, society, etc., about schools, learning, careers, and working.
  3. Any experience or event that may have impacted your lifework path (e.g., going to school, being on a committee or in an organization, moving, significant life experiences, changes in relationships, learning new skills or information).
  4. All jobs (paid or unpaid) and why you took each job; why you left.
  5. Significant people who have influenced your life, positively or negatively.
  6. Major lessons you learned, whether through formal education or other experience.
