Requesting a Registration Change
Registration change requests must be in writing. You may either complete the Request for Registration Change Form in the AHS3 office, or send an e-mail to your adviser (instructions below).
Include in all e-mails to your adviser the following information:
- Your full name
- Your U of M ID number
Instructions for requesting to drop a class (or classes):
Indicate that you wish to DROP a course and include the following information:
- Your reason for dropping the course
- The department name and course number (e.g. HIST 1012W)
- The section of the course (e.g., dis 002)
Instructions for requesting to add a class (or classes):
Indicate that you wish to ADD a course, and include the following information:
- The department name and course number (e.g., SPAN 1004)
- The section of the course (e.g., lab 015)
- The five-digit registration number that corresponds to the section (e.g., 12345)
- Your chosen grading option (A-F or S-N)
- A permission number, if applicable (see below)
Your adviser will send you a verification e-mail once the changes have been made. Then, print a new enrollment summary (from One Stop) and review the changes for accuracy. You are fully responsible for knowing your registration summary and making necessary changes.
Getting Into Closed Classes
Permission numbers are required to add a course (or change sections) in the following instances:
- The section that you want is closed
- The remaining open seats of the section are reserved for students who are not in the PSEO program
- All reserved PSEO seats in the section have been taken
- The course requires an audition
If the course has the option for a wait list online, ask to be added to the wait list. The department will contact you via e-mail if you can receive a permission number. If there is no online wait list option, contact the instructor of the section that you wish to enroll in, or the department, to request a permission number.
For permission to enroll in Chemistry or Math, follow the instructions below:
Getting into a closed Chemistry course
As the beginning of the semester approaches, check the Web registration system as some lab seats become available as students drop or change sections. During the first week of classes, meet outside the lab doors at the start of each lab you are available to attend for the semester. Chemistry personnel will take attendance on the first day of each lab period. Students who are present outside the lab doors will be added to the lab as space is available. If there are more students needing a particular lab than spaces available, they will do a lottery drawing until all spaces are filled. Once you have been assigned a lab section, you will be given a permission number override to be able to officially register for the course. You must formally complete your registration through the AHS3 Office in 107 Armory. This should be done by the end of the first week of the semester. Contact the Chemistry Department in room 115 Smith Hall at 612-624-0026 if you have further questions.
Getting into a closed math course
If there is no way a student can work his/her schedule to do an open section of math, the student should send a request via e-mail to ugrad@math.umn.edu. The request must include the student's name, U of M ID number, course number (Ex.: "Math 1271"), section number (Ex.: "012"), class number (5-digit, Ex.: "12345") for each section or course requested as well as the reason for requesting permission to enter a closed section. If you receive a permission number to add a closed section of MATH, you must contact your AHS adviser to formally add the course.
