Considering PSEO

The Post Secondary Enrollment Options is a great resource for many students, but it is not an experience that works well for everyone. PSEO allows advanced high school students the opportunity to take more challenging coursework than what may be provided at their high schools. However, adjustments to the academic demands, new classroom cultures, and time management requirements of college courses can add unanticipated stress to a high school student's life. We've provided a few resources to help students decide whether to participate in PSEO.

Prospective Student Information Sessions

The AHS3 Office holds information sessions each spring for the upcoming academic year. These sessions cover the application procedure and many important considerations for prospective students. Attendance is not mandatory but is highly encouraged. Please visit our News & Events page for more details on Information Sessions.

Application Deadlines

The application deadline for 2009-2010 has now passed. While late applications may be submitted, they will be reviewed only after all on-time applications have been processed. To submit a late application, please e-mail the AHS3 Office for a PDF of the application form and instructions.

Fall Semester 2009: April 1, 2009
Note: The UMTC PSEO program will no longer admit new students for Spring semesters.

Other Minnesota PSEO programs may be an option for students who are not successful in applying to the University of Minnesota's PSEO Program. Please visit the Minnesota Department of Education's PSEO website to find information on other participating schools.

PSEO Application Form and Balance Sheet

Application to the University of Minnesota PSEO Program requires students to submit an Application Form, a Balance Sheet, a Post-Secondary Notice of Student Registration, an essay, and a personal statement; some students may be required to submit additional information. Please also download the detailed Application Instructions on properly submitting all required information.

PSEO Form

Application to the PSEO Program also requires a copy of the Post-Secondary Notice of Student Registration available from the Minnesota Department of Education. It must be signed by you, your parent or guardian if you are under 18 years of age, and your high school counselor.

Admission Criteria

All applications to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities PSEO Program are reviewed on a holistic basis. While high school GPA and class rank are important elements, the Admissions Committee makes admissions decisions based on many factors relating to an applicant's overall readiness for college. We make every attempt to provide accurate information, but this list is not exhaustive and meeting all qualifications does not guarantee admission to the program.

Admission Criteria

School of Music

All students who are interested in taking music lessons and performing in ensembles through the University of Minnesota must also apply to the School of Music. More details on the application process may be found on the School's Web site: http://www.music.umn.edu/. Admission to the School of Music does not guarantee admission to the PSEO program.

University Honors Program

Beginning Fall 2008, honors courses at the University of Minnesota will be administered through the University Honors Program. Admission to these courses may only be possible on a space-available basis. In preparing for participation in the University's PSEO program, do not assume that honors courses will be available to PSEO students. The AHS3 Office will update this space with more information as we receive it.
